Ontario isn't usually associated with sasquatch-type creatures, however reports do come along once in a while. This is exactly what happened near the small community of Peawanuck in the Polar Bear Provincial Park in Northern Ontario. What was reported was the discovery of strange tracks found on June 9th, 2001, by a band member travelling on an ATV. Each track measured 35-centimetres long and 12-cm wide, having a 6 foot (2 metres) stride between each imprint. Soon enough, the MNR was called in to investigate the seemingly innexplicable footprints. Rick Tapley was one of the investigators.
Rick himself found a print on June 14th, about 150 kilometres (93 miles) east of Peawanuck, while inspecting an old radar base. Originally, he was looking for debris and equipment in the bush, but then stumbled upon the lone tracks. He did not find any other in the area. As the site where he found the footprint is very remote and only accessible by helicopter during this time of year, he doubts the print was hoaxed.
But this is not Rick's first time with these strange, human-like footprints: thirty years ago, while inspecting cottages in a remote location north of Sudbury, he noticed footprints around one cottage. The prints came out of the bush, circled the cottage, stopped at every window and then went back into the bush. Rick was alone, so he didn't bother following the tracks. These were very similar to the ones he saw recently, which he describes as "...much like a large human footprints." "Since then," he says, "I have been a bit of a believer.".
If this creature really is akin to sasquatch, it is not the first one here: some residents recall seeing the beast 20 years ago.
I thank Rick Tapley for answering my questions and supplying the picture of the track he found.
