Sasquish?
The actual term, "Sasquatch", comes from the Chechalis Indian Reserve, located close to Chilliwack, British Columbia. Sasquatch is the anglicization of the coast salish word for a huge, hairy-looking creature living in the B.C. coast. The word inquired national usage when it was announced that Harrison Hot Springs would host a "Sasquatch Hunt" to mark the B.C. Centennial of 1958. The hunt never took place.
Big Foot Prints
Most people living in sasquatch country will tell you that they have never seen the creature, but some will tell you that they have found some of it's tracks. The footprints are human-like, having 5 toes, with some reported to have 4. The tracks generally measure about 7x14 inches. Some tracks have even been found containing strands of hair!
Smelly
Based on sightings, sasquatch has a very strong smell. Some say that just before they saw the creature, they smelled a very foul odour worst than a skunk's, raising the hair on the back of their necks. Some describe the smell as either an outhouse in the middle of summer, rotten garbage, or even old tires. Even though most people have never seen sasquatch, some say they have certainly smelled it!
A Tall Guy
Sasquatch is a huge creature. It is usually between 6 to 9 feet tall, with some reports stating that it can be over 14 feet tall!!! Of course, such a big animal would need a steady diet. The western forests offers just that. There is meat, plants, and plenty of water. Some plants that people have reported seeing sasquatch eat were the following: grass, sweet roots, spruce and hemlock tips, tubers and many others. Sasquatch has also been reported on occasion to eat small animals, though it's diet seems to consist primarely of vegetation.
Hairy
Sasquatch is a hairy fellow. Most say that it has 5 to 7 inch long hair covering its body, except for it's face, hands and the sole of its feet. The general colour of sasquatch seems to be reddish-brown, almost auburn, with black hair below the knees. Other colours were also stated several times: black, deep brown, beige, and sometimes white. Hair samples have been found, but scientists say that there is not enough DNA found in them to make a positive identification.
Hibernate?
Sasquatch seems to be most active in the summer time than in the winter. Could it be that sasquatch hibernates? The debate goes on...
Not From This World?
Some people even think that sasquatch comes from space! According to one story, aliens drop off these creatures on Earth, to come back years after and feed on them. But in most stories, sasquatch would happen to be the aliens.
