The Mosquito

(Size: 1 cm)

Anyone who's been to a marsh before will know what these tiny vampires are truly capable of: bite after bite after annoying bite. These pesky pests are attracted by heat, moisture, most perfumes, and carbon dioxide. When they bite, they do so with a long probe that pierces the skin and sucks out the blood needed to produce their eggs. The itching is caused by the immune system reacting to the mosquito's saliva.

The high point for mosquito bites is at dusk and at dawn. To avoid being bitten a lot, it is suggested to wear bright coloured clothing (though some biologists scoff at this "tip", I say it work; and I should know, I live in what I consider "Bloodsucker Valley"). Avoid dark colours, like black and dark green.

Finally, the best bug spray to buy is the one with the most DEET (diethyl toluamide) in it. Oh, and luckily, only the females bite.
